Citation
Abstract NARCIS is the national portal for those looking for information about scientists and their work. In addition to scientists, students, journalists and employees within education, government and the business community also use NARCIS. NARCIS offers access to scientific information, including (open access) publications from the repositories of all Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and various scientific institutions, datasets from a number of data archives, as well as descriptions of research projects, researchers and research institutes. This means that NARCIS cannot (yet) be used as an entrance to complete overviews of publications by researchers. However, there are more and more institutions that make all their scientific publications accessible via NARCIS. In this way the publication lists of the scientists can be made as complete as possible. The development of NARCIS started in 2004 as a collaborative project of KNAW Research Information, NWO, VSNU and METIS in the context of service development within SURFfoundation's DARE program. This project has realized the NARCIS portal, in which the DAREnet service was incorporated in January 2007. NARCIS has been a DANS service since 2011.
