Abstract Argo is a global extension network composed of more than 3000 profiling floats capable of measuring the temperature and salinity of the layer above 2000 m in depth. The data collected by the Argo project will provide continuous and global monitoring not only of these variables but also of the speed of ocean currents. All data collected is transmitted and made available to the community in a matter of hours. The project “Monitoring the Regional VARiability of heat transport in the surface layer of the South Atlantic Ocean between Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Ilha de Trindade (ES)” (MOVAR) is a pilot project in collaboration with NOAA. During the oceanographic cruise of the MOVAR project, between the coast of Brazil and the island of Trindade, 372 miles from the coast, four Argo floats were launched on board the Hydrographic Ship Sirius. With the launch of these four floats, Brazil became the twenty-first of the IOC member countries to be part of the Argo project. The leadership of activities related to Argo in Brazil is the Executive Committee of GOOS-Brasil, coordinated by the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN). DHN is responsible for facilitating the implementation of ocean observation programs in Brazil with institutions in Argentina and Uruguay. The SOLO type floats, manufactured by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) were launched at the following coordinates: 19.26 ° S - 24.30 ° W; 19.59 ° S - 27.00 ° W; 21.01 ° S - 32.00 ° W; 21.50 ° S - 36.00 ° W.
